MillFile

Compress PDF to 5 MB

Discord, Slack and most upload forms cap files between 2 and 10 MB, so MillFile rebuilds your PDF to fit under 5 MB in this browser tab. Free and unlimited, no account, no watermark - and the file is never uploaded, which matters for a portfolio, a scan set or a deck that has to clear a chat app's ceiling.

Where the 5 MB ceiling comes from

Two megabytes covers identity documents, but plenty of everyday destinations stop higher. Free Discord accounts have taken their per-file cap to 20 MiB, Slack varies by plan, and most upload forms sit somewhere in the 2 to 10 MB band. A portfolio PDF or a slide deck exported from a laptop routinely lands above 5 MB for no particular reason - a single embedded image is often the whole difference.

MillFile runs a lossless rebuild first, which clears plenty of documents without touching a pixel. Whatever is still over is reduced page by page against a shared 5 MB budget, so dense pages give up detail while clean text pages keep theirs. Everything happens on your device, so nothing you are sending to a server passes through ours.

Free and unlimited. No account, no watermark, no daily cap — and the file is processed on your device, never on a server.

Questions about compressing to 5 MB

How do I compress a PDF to 5 MB?

Choose the 5 MB target above, drop the file, and download it once the badge confirms the new size. Progress is reported while the pages are processed.

Which upload limits does 5 MB fit?

Most chat apps and forms that sit in the 2 to 10 MB band: free Discord uploads, many school and job portals, some e-commerce back-office tools. Check the field next to the upload box - if it names a limit above 5 MB, use that target instead.

Will text stay searchable?

Often, yes. A 5 MB allowance is generous enough that many documents finish on the lossless rebuild, which leaves text selectable. Only pages that still overshoot get re-rendered, and those stay readable even though they stop being searchable.

Do my links survive?

Links on pages that survive as real text do. A page that is re-rendered becomes a picture and takes its links, fillable fields and signatures with it. If the recipient needs a working link or an editable field, send the original instead of a compressed copy.

Does anything get uploaded when I compress?

No. MillFile has no backend - reading, compressing and downloading all happen inside this browser tab, so you can confirm it in DevTools if you want to.

Can I go larger than 5 MB?

Yes. If the destination caps files at 10 or 20 MB, pick those targets instead - the same engine handles them, and a bigger allowance means fewer pages get re-rendered.
