Compress PDF to 20 MB

E-mail and chat clients cap attachments near 20 MB, so MillFile rebuilds your PDF to fit under 20 MB in this browser tab. Free and unlimited, no account, no watermark - and the file is never uploaded, at the ceiling that blocks most e-mail accounts.

The 20 MB wall, and how to stay under it

Twenty megabytes is one of the hardest limits in ordinary online life: Outlook.com stops at 20 MB per message, iCloud Mail at 20 MB, WhatsApp pictures at 16 MB. Gmail is more generous at 25 MB but sends anything larger as a Drive link, which quietly changes what the recipient gets. If a file is over the wall, the message is not delivered - it bounces, or lands in a drafts folder you have to notice.

Aim a little under the limit rather than exactly at it: encoding and container overhead can push a file that measures 19.9 MB over the line on the way out. MillFile rebuilds losslessly first and only re-renders the pages that would still break 20 MB, so the result stays as close to the original as the ceiling allows. The whole pipeline runs on your device, so confidential documents are never sent anywhere.

Free and unlimited. No account, no watermark, no daily cap — and the file is processed on your device, never on a server.

Questions about compressing to 20 MB

How do I compress a PDF to 20 MB?

Select the 20 MB target, drop the file, and download it once the badge confirms the new size. Pages are processed one at a time and report progress.

Why not target exactly 20 MB?

Because of what happens after you save. Encoding overhead and rounding can turn a file that measures 19.9 MB into something the receiving server rejects. Staying a little under is what actually gets it through.

Which services need this?

Outlook.com and iCloud Mail cap a message at 20 MB, free Discord uploads run to 20 MiB, and many corporate mail servers stop at 10 to 25 MB. Gmail allows 25 MB and turns anything larger into a Drive link.

Will the text still be searchable?

Very likely at this size. The lossless rebuild handles most documents outright, and only pages that genuinely overshoot get re-rendered. Check the result before sending if the recipient needs to copy text out of it.

What happens to pages that were already small?

Nothing. Reduction is applied only to the pages that would otherwise push the document past 20 MB.

Do links and form fields survive?

On pages kept as real text, yes. Pages that become images lose their links, fillable fields and signatures along with them. If the document needs to stay fillable, send the original.

Can I check that nothing was uploaded?

Yes, and it is worth doing once. Open DevTools, switch to the Network tab, drop a file and compress it: no request carrying your document appears. MillFile runs the whole pipeline on your device and has no server to receive it.
